Product Description
Water-expandable waterstop is a new type of watertight sealing strip made mainly of hydrophilic polymers (e.g., super-absorbent resin or modified rubber). Inside the material are a large number of hydrophilic groups (carboxyl, hydroxyl, etc.). On contact with water, osmotic pressure, hydrogen bonding and chain-unfolding make the strip swell rapidly to 2–6 times its original volume, forming a gel-like elastic body that plugs the leakage paths in concrete construction joints, deformation joints or around wall-penetrating pipes, thus realizing a "stop-water-with-water" seal.
Main types
*Putty type (PN/BW): usually rectangular, soft and self-adhesive, swelling 150 %–300 %, suitable for irregular gaps or post-construction repairs.
*Molded type (PZ/BF): vulcanized and shaped, with better rebound and compression resistance, swelling 150 %–600 %, widely used in new underground works, tunnel segments and other long-term pressure locations.
