Working Principle

Energy Dissipation Mechanism: The rubber material in high-damping rubber bearings dissipates energy through internal frictional heat generation caused by the movement of fibers, plastics, or fine particles like graphite when subjected to shear deformation. The equivalent damping ratio of these bearings is generally between 10% and 20%, about 2 to 4 times that of ordinary plate rubber bearings.

Adjusting Natural Vibration Period: During an earthquake, high-damping rubber bearings extend the natural vibration period of the structure through their horizontal reciprocating shear deformation. This increases the structure's damping to reduce the transmitted energy and mitigate the seismic response of the upper structure.

Material Composition: They are mainly composed of high-damping rubber materials and steel plates. High-damping rubber is made by incorporating materials like graphite into natural or synthetic rubber.

Construction Form: Typically, they consist of the bearing body and upper and lower sealing steel plates, upper pre-embedded steel plates, and anchoring connection components. The bearing body is vulcanized and bonded to the upper and lower sealing steel plates, with no pre-embedded steel plate on the bottom surface. The bottom is connected to the pier or abutment through the lower sealing steel plate using sleeves and anchor bolts.
