Product Description
Plate Bridge Rubber Elastomeric Expansion Joints Road Bridge Expansion Joints for Railway
Rubber Bridge Expansion Joints for Comfortable Drive
Rubber bridge expansion joints are mainly made of rubber, steel plate and angle iron. Steel plates are set in the rubber bridge expansion to strengthen the bearing capacity and they can slide freely along the angle iron to meet the expansion deformation of main grid.
Because of the excellent sealability and shock-absorbing effect of rubber, rubber bridge expansion joints do well in proofing water and reducing noise. The elasticity of rubber plates and its shear deformation in the telescopic channel helps the whole device to realize telescopic motion.

Working Principle
Temperature rise → beam elongates → joint rubber compressed axially and bulges transversely; temperature drop → beam shortens → rubber stretches and springs back. Under traffic, wheel load spreads through steel plates/teeth → rubber shears → impact energy converted to heat while deck remains continuous. During earthquake or braking, rubber deforms non-uniformly to accommodate micro-rotation, preventing local concrete crushing.
Construction & maintenance
*Before installation check rubber hardness, tensile strength and surface defects against specifications.
*After cleaning, groove evenness ≤2 mm; weld anchorage bars ≥3d length; re-torque bolts to design value.
*After opening to traffic, remove debris every half-year, flush de-icing salts in winter; replace immediately if rubber cracks or steel plates are exposed.
Structure
Rubber bridge expansion joints are consisted of rubber, reinforce steel plate, ranura, sealing block, fitting portion, nut plate, kidney-shaped cap, nuts and bolt.

FAQ
Q1: How much movement can it accommodate?
A: Movement range is 30-330mm, supplied in graded sizes -- the plate is engineered from your bridge's thermal and traffic movement data.
Q2: Why are steel inserts needed inside the rubber?
A: Steel inserts carry wheel loads and stop the rubber from over-straining -- the composite handles heavy traffic that plain rubber alone cannot.
Q3: How does the joint stay watertight?
A: The plate is vulcanized in one sealed body and anchored around the perimeter -- water and debris are blocked before they reach piers and bearings.
Q4: How long does the joint last?
A: Design life is 15+ years with proper installation -- the vulcanized rubber-steel bond resists fatigue, ozone, and weathering.
Q5: Is it noisy for traffic?
A: No -- the rubber surface dampens impact and is quieter than steel-to-steel finger joints, which suits urban and residential areas.
Q6: What temperature range does it tolerate?
A: Service temperature is -40°C to +80°C -- the rubber stays flexible in cold winters and stable under hot summer traffic.
Q7: How fast can it be installed?
A: Preformed units bolt into the block-out quickly -- full installation and grout curing typically take days, not weeks.
