Seismic isolation bearings are seismic isolation devices used for structures such as buildings and bridges. Their main function is to reduce the vibration effects on the structure during an earthquake, thereby protecting the structure's safety and reducing losses. Seismic isolation bearings are typically installed between the foundation or base of a building and its upper structure, forming a seismic isolation layer that uses the deformation of the isolation layer to consume and isolate seismic energy.
The types of seismic isolation bearings are mainly as follows:
Rubber Type: Made by alternating layers of steel plates and rubber. The elasticity of the rubber is used to absorb and dissipate seismic energy. To increase the damping ratio, some rubber bearings also include lead cores or other damping materials.

Features:
During the earthquake, the un-isolated building will vibrate back and forth in varying directions due to the inertial forces and result in deformation and damages of the building. In contrast, the base isolated building will also displace but remains its original shapes and avoid damages - that is because the lead rubber bearing effectively dissipates the inertial force upon the building, extends the building's period of vibration and decrease the acceleration of the building.
The lead plug will slid with laminated rubber during earthquake but convert this energy of movement to heat so that it efficiently reduces the inertial force upon the building, which slow the vibration of the building. Meanwhile, the rubber part will preserve its original shape due to high elasticity.
